The technique of standing and walking meditation complements the more traditional sitting-style meditations. It brings more mindfulness to the present moment. When you open your eyes and begin walking, you begin to embody elevated energy.

Traditionally, there are four meditation postures: sitting, standing, walking, and lying down. By mastering the various aspects associated with each posture, one can regulate internal states irrespective of external conditions and circumstances. Many people feel energized after sitting meditation; however, as soon as they engage in daily activities, awareness decreases, and energy dissipates. The fruits of meditation do not last long.

The standing and walking meditation brings mindfulness to the present moment. It is best practiced in nature, where one can remain quiet and undisturbed. Advanced meditators, however, can eventually practice walking meditation amidst distractions in public spaces.

The Technique of Standing and Walking Meditation

Dr. Joe Dispenza provides the following instructions:

Begin by finding a quiet space in nature. Disconnect from your external environment and anchor yourself in the present moment by closing your eyes. Acknowledge your heart center, where the soul and heart intersect with the unified field, and bring elevated emotions such as gratitude, joy, inspiration, compassion, and love to this center.

  1. Rest attention on the heart, breathing slowly and deeply for about two minutes.
  2. Create elevated emotions within your heart for two to three minutes. Radiate that energy into the space around your body.
  3. Hold a clear intention in your mind’s eye. Choose a symbol that connects you to your future. Broadcast that new energy for two to three minutes.
  4. Open your eyes. Without focusing on anything, keep awareness of the space around your body. Begin walking in a trance state, embodying your new energy.
  5. Remember your future. Let images come, feel them, embody them, and continue walking for about ten minutes.
  6. Stop and recalibrate. Close your eyes and raise your energy for five to ten minutes.
  7. With eyes open, walk again for ten minutes as your future self, embodying the new energy with each step.
  8. Repeat the cycle two times. After the second round, stand still, focus on how you feel, and affirm your new state (e.g., “I am unlimited”).
  9. Place your hand over your heart, feel gratitude and worthiness, and acknowledge the divine within you.
  10. Give thanks for your new life before it manifests. Radiate love and welcome synchronicities that bring joy to existence.
